Immersion, in this context, refers to the active involvement of students and staff in the life and work of the Oblates or the De Mazenod Family in specific regions across the globe. The Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a dedicated Missionary Congregation, tirelessly carry out their work in approximately 67 countries worldwide.
In 2019, Mazenod WA successfully organised two immersion experiences, one to China in late September to early October, and the other to India in December. These immersive journeys primarily involved Year 11 students and formed an integral part of the well-established tradition in our Oblate colleges throughout Australia. The Oblates diligently serve the communities of Sri Lanka, China and India through various initiatives such as schools, youth ministries, orphanages, agricultural projects, and post-school education programs.
During the India immersions held before 2019, the students were primarily based at St Eugene's School in Tallapudi while also visiting the Oblate missions in Chennai. Our students actively engaged in a diverse range of tasks conducted within these missions. Their activities included teaching English to students aged 7 to 18 through interactive games and sporting activities. Additionally, students had the opportunity to witness firsthand the profound impact of the Oblates' work in assisting the poor and marginalized populations. The College has plans to resume the Indian Immersions in 2025, aiming to continue fostering meaningful connections and making a positive difference in the lives of those in need.
