The Mazenod Journey

"Make them good humans, make them Christians, make them saints"

St Eugene De Mazenod

Mazenod College is a welcoming, learning community, following Jesus Christ in the footsteps of St Eugene De Mazenod. Working with the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate we seek to inspire both ourselves and others to ‘Learn who we are in the eyes of God’. Along the path of that discovery, we seek to create a community where all feel valued, respected and loved by God.

All members of our community have the right to be safe in our community.

We partner with families and students to amplify individual wellbeing and nurture a sense of belonging so that students may contribute to healthy relationships in our community, and flourish individually.

The Mazenod Journey serves as guiding outcomes, emphasizing our intentional focus as we journey with students within our community. This journey is framed by activities and learning we believe are important to becoming active participants in society, each according to their ability

At Mazenod College, we view a student's educational and personal growth as a journey shared with families. This journey encompasses a range of experiences, encompassing both successes and failures, social and academic, all of which aid our community members in ‘learning who they are in the eyes of God’. We aim to support our young men in becoming their authentic selves and Mazenodians—men of integrity and respect who embody the charism of St Eugene De Mazenod through loving service.

Our graduates will be strength-orientated and hope-filled, willing to take safe risks as daring learners in the pursuit of personal excellence. They will know the value of healthy, respectful relationships and how to maintain them. We strive to foster missionary zeal so students experience closeness to people, either in service or in interpersonal relationships.

We want our students to be daring in their spirituality with the will and courage to walk in the footsteps of the Apostles. Each step of their journey will build on their last as they journey from Year 7 to Year 12. Each part of their journey is mapped with the whole person in mind and the man they will become as our goal for all Mazenodians in our loving community.

    'YOU ROCK & LEAP'

"Live the life of the family of which you are a part of."

    St Eugene De Mazenod

We ask our students leap into Year 7 at Mazenod. As they take their first steps of their journey with us, we know they may hold a range of feelings at this transition. The orientation of our new students Year 7 students at the College is a key focus for the College. We say to all students ‘you ROCK at Mazenod’. This is an acronym used for being respectful, organised, courageous and kind. These values drive our focus of transition and pastoral development.

We offer bespoke LEAP lessons to complement the pastoral care time they have each week. This bespoke program provides a safe space to question and learn as students they begin their Mazenod Journey. The program provides guiding pastoral care and practical information on many aspects of the high school experience, including academic habit forming.

Our peer support program introduces students to our loving community through intentional mentoring sessions that develop Mazenodian closeness, safety and trust.

We begin our formation focus of missionary spirituality through the introduction of our Christian Service Learning Program with Form, House and Portfolio leadership opportunities alongside service groups such as Young Vinnies and the Sustainability Group.

Through this year students will transition into high school and develop effective academic and social habits. They will understand their interdependence with others in our community and explore the need for appropriate independence.

Our Wellbeing Vision

"I have come that they might have life to the full" John 10:10

We wish for all our community members to live life fully, experiencing the abundance of God’s love and participating in all parts of human society.

With Christ as our foundation, we place the spiritual, physical and mental wellbeing of each person as a priority. Our approach is founded on being Christ-centred and child focused. Each community member is supported to come to holistic understanding of themselves founded on the dignity of the human person.

It is an approach that is values-based, drawing on the Charism of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate for strength and guidance.

Below you will find our Wellbeing Framework. It is a framework shared with our community of Catholic Schools and guides growing wellbeing across our school.

Our focus on wellbeing improvement happens at three levels:

Capabilities

Capabilities reside within students, educators, school leaders, parents and families. Capabilities such as attitudes, skills, knowledge and behaviour (that all relate to wellbeing) can be improved by learning and applied practice.

Connections

Connections occur between people through healthy respectful relationships. Connections can be improved through high levels of physical and psychological safety, a strong sense of belonging and a spiritual connection with God.

Conditions

Conditions relate to the elements of a group, classroom or school environment that interact to build a context that supports wellbeing. These conditions can be improved through school leadership; teacher practice; and the design and function of learning spaces.
