Caring For
The Whole Person

Guiding, Supporting and Empowering Every Student

At Mazenod College, we understand that a young man's success in academic, sporting or cultural pursuits is closely tied to his sense of belonging and identity within the school community. We believe that every boy's pastoral welfare is paramount to his holistic development, and we are committed to providing comprehensive support services to help our students thrive.

Our well-structured Pastoral Care system is designed to provide personalised support to every student, with a team of dedicated staff involved in all aspects of a boy's school life. The Pastoral Care structure is horizontal in nature, with a Head of Year overseeing the welfare of the boys in their Year group. Each Head of Year is supported by a team of Form Teachers who take on responsibility for a Form group.

To ensure that every student receives the attention and care he deserves, Form groups meet with their Form teacher each morning, with an extended Form period on Tuesday mornings when a range of Pastoral Care activities take place. Our Heads of Year are further supported by two School Psychologists, one for Years 7 to 9 and the other for Years 10 to 12, who are able to offer assistance in a range of areas.

In addition, the Pastoral Care program is overseen by two of the College's Deputy Principals, who work closely with the Heads of Year to provide guidance, support and resources to ensure the wellbeing of every student. We are dedicated to creating a caring, supportive and inclusive environment that fosters the growth and development of every student, and we believe that our Pastoral Care system is a critical component of achieving this goal.

Our Peer Support Program

We understand that the transition from primary to secondary school can be a challenging time for Year 7 students. To support our students through this important milestone, we have developed a comprehensive Peer Support program that matches small groups of Year 7 boys with two Year 11 students.

Throughout Term One, our Year 11 students work closely with their Year 7 group to provide guidance, support and a listening ear as the younger students settle into their new school environment.

Our Year 11 students are carefully selected according to a range of criteria and undergo training to prepare them for this important role. We believe that our Peer Support program is an essential part of our commitment to pastoral care and student wellbeing, and we are proud to offer this unique and effective support service to our Year 7 students.
