‘Learn what you are in the eyes of God’

Today, we had the please of welcoming back four 2017 graduates, who have all been accepted into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.  Ben Shelly, Finn Owen and Jordan Boase were ATAR students, who will all be embarking on a Bachelor of Music (Jazz) at WAAPA.

Ben (drums) Finn (tenor saxophone) and Jordan (vocal/trombone) were all part of Mazenod’s Jazz Band 1 that travelled to James Morrison’s Generations in Jazz festival in Mt Gambier last year.  It was the first time a Mazenod group had travelled to this festival. They were all inspired by their experience and decided to pursue Jazz at a tertiary level. The Jazz course at WAAPA is very highly regarded and only a limited number of spots are offered each year.

Kai Williamson (electric guitar) was a Year 11 VET/General student in 2017 and was accepted into WAAPA’s Diploma of Music Industry course based on an audition in which he performed some original material and covered some classic blues/rock tracks. Kai has always been a passionate musician and is hoping to use the Diploma as a stepping stone towards a Bachelor of Music (Contemporary) in 2019.
