Mazenod College began their defense of the WACA Gareme Wood Shield with a tough Round 1 match against Corpus Christi College on our home ground, yesterday afternoon.

Joshua Harris, Captain of the Mazenod First XI, lost the toss and Mazenod was sent into bat first. The innings started off well with Joshua Harris and debutant, Regan Hill getting the team off to a solid start.  Harris was dismissed after a quick fire 21.  Ethan Carrington came in at number three and scored 50 runs to steady the innings and help Mazenod reach a total of 5/119 from their allotted 20 overs.

Corpus Christi struggled in their run chase against a solid Mazenod bowling attack. With all the Mazenod bowlers bowling very tight lines, their batsmen found it difficult to score.  Zane Thurston 3/7 off 4 overs and Ben Dupont 1/11 off 3 overs were the pick of the bowlers. In the end, Corpus Christi fell short in their chase finishing with 5/82 off 20 overs.

It was a very pleasing result for the Mazenod team considering that Corpus Christi have been in the finals for the last three years and boast a very strong line-up.
